HOW OFTEN DO YOU CLEAN YOUR CAT LITTER BOX??
I clean my cat’s litter tray weekly but change the litter almost on a daily basis depending on how much it’s been used. Note though that my cat is an outdoor cat and so not all poop goes in the litter box. But this further article suggest a monthly clean is fine – what do you think?? http://enjoywellbeing.ca/cat-spring/ Read More →
TAKE CARE OF SENIOR CAT CLAWS
like us things change as we age… cats can have difficulty with their claws as they thicken. Reduced activity in the older cat means the claws may become overgrown and troublesome – take the time to check this out and visit the veterinary if necessary to have them trimmed by an expert – if left neglected claws can be painful and make walking more difficult – thus the problem is exacerbated.... TREATING EAR MITES
some over the counter products are available but if there is an ear infection too then seeking proper advice is best – Elaine Wexler-Mitchell who runs a cat care clinic in Orange says. And she seems to know her stuff too – apparently ear mites eat ear wax… sometimes you can have too much information! Joking aside though the ear mite can be a very irritating and shouldn’t be ignored as... [Read more...]
Toilet Training Cats: The Possibilities
Training a cat to do something very practical entails so much challenge to its owner, but its reward is surely satisfying. It may take quite a remarkable amount of time and patience, but in the long run your pet will eventually get used to it and will be able to perform the task for which you train it for. Training your cats to observe toilet routine is simply another matter that you can possibly... [Read more...]
WHY CATS SCRATCH…
cat’s scratch for a number of reasons – it’s a good way to stretch, yes, but it’s also a way to leave a scent. Cats like to mark territory – in the wild they need, in order to survive, their own patch as it were…. in my experience it’s easy to stop a cat from scratching – I smile as I write this – because I have read so much about how cats wreck homes that I know there are going... WHAT DO YOU THINK A CAT NEEDS??
We all have different styles of parenting but when it comes to our pets is there a standard of behaviour we should be looking to. For instance how much one to one playtime should we be giving, how many toys should we provide, what kind of food… in our household we run a scheme called cat centred care… this basically means puss will tell us what her requirements are and we oblige. If... [Read more...]
AN INTERESTING POST
and as the author says food for thought – but anyway here’s what it made me think…. in our neighbourhood if we find a dead animal (and sadly it does happen occasionally) we find out who it belongs to and go speak to them – if for some reason they are unable to do anything – this is often due to distress – we bury it for them in an appropriate place and offer our condolences. Perhaps... [Read more...]
THE PREGNANT STRAY
is this the time of year when strays turn up on your doorstep?? Perhaps this is something that is more prevalent in towns and cities but as yet it has never happened to me – but nonetheless if it should happen what does one do? I spoke to a neighbour about this and we decided between us that we should try to offer the cat somewhere safe and secure to actually have the kittens and to make sure she... [Read more...]
MIXED FEELINGS ABOUT THE EXOTIC CAT MARKET…
Read this one person’s story about adopting two rescued F1 jungle cats – apparently these cats have no understanding of human standards and make the ordinary domesticated male look tom look quite cute! But these cats have an amazing aura – they are however at heart wild cats and should not really ever be cooped up in a domesticated setting – would you agree or not… please get in touch...
